National Poetry Day 2021

We have had a fantastic day celebrating poetry and playing with words! Judge The Poet visited each class to perform poetry and to show us that poetry is fun! Judge asked us to give him words randomly and he put them into a poem right there on the spot! In Class 4, the children wrote their own poems with the help of Judge. William said, "Mr Raeburn came into school for National Poetry Day and he told us all about his work and how poems don't have to rhyme. We made up a poem together and we all enjoyed seeing him make a rhyming poem with words that we had given him straight out of his head!"

Class 3 have never given Mr Crouch a standing ovation but Mr Raeburn amazed and delighted us with his inspirational hour in our class and he quite rightly got a standing ovation for his amazing poetic skills. He inspired us to have a go at writing our own poems and told us that there isn't a right or wrong answer! We attempted writing our own poems about the Vikings using such diverse words as 'longboats', 'bite' and 'Mary'. The children produced some delightful examples. Than you, Judge!

Judge the Poet made us giggle in Class 1 when he made up some great poems about us! He asked some of us what our names are, how old we are and what we like doing. Then he made up poems which made us all laugh! He told us that poems can tell us stories, just like the nursery rhymes we have learned. Before he left, he made up a poem about We're Going on a Bear Hunt which is the book we have been learning about. It was a great poem about mud, snowstorms, a cave and, of course, a bear!
